We are thankful for the many wonderful testimonials we have received over the years. We hope to someday receive a letter from your family expressing similar sentiments. Here is what clients and their families have said about Pennsylvania elder law attorney Robert C. Gerhard, III and the staff at Gerhard & Gerhard, P.C.:
…Everything has worked out according to the original blueprint. Thank you for your honesty from the beginning, your competency in elder care law, your availability when needed, your concern for our situation, and the end result. My mother will continue to receive care, which is now financed through Medical Assistance, and my father is able to retain his dignity and provide for himself as the community spouse. Linda G.
…Everyone was courteous professional, and knowledgeable. They reviewed things thoroughly. I left feeling comfortable with the steps I need to take to preserve my limited assets and to plan for the future. Ann R.G.
Dear Robert, This letter is to let you know how much I appreciated your help in getting my mother on Medicaid. When I knew she would have to apply for Medicaid, I really didn’t know [how] to proceed with the process…I was very impressed with your credentials. At first, I was somewhat apprehensive about choosing someone from the Internet, but decided to give it a try anyway. Your expertise in Medicaid laws and the process put my mind at ease. Working with you was a very good experience. Communicating with you was very easy. All my phone calls were returned promptly. You were very patient in answering all my questions, and I had a lot of them and often. Today you called me with the good news that my mother has been approved for Medicaid. I look forward to seeing you soon to go over my and my husband’s wills and other essential documents that we need for our estate planning. Many thanks again. Lois G.
Dear Mr. Gerhard: I would like to thank you for all the help you gave me with getting my mother medical assistance. It is very confusing to try and understand all the red tape that is associated with this type of transaction. Putting a loved one in a nursing home is bad enough, but then to watch everything that they worked for disappear and not understand what it is that you are paying for is hard.
With your knowledge of the system, we were able to get what she was entitled to without any problem or future worries from the state after her death. I hope that we never need to get involved with anything like this again, however if we do we know that we have found an experienced attorney in these matters. Please be advised that should you require a reference, feel free to show this letter to your clients. Please be discreet and not disclose my address. Thank you for all that you have done. Samuel S.
Your knowledge of elder law and the professional and prompt manner in which you handled [our case] are to be commended. You responded to all of our questions in a timely and professional manner. You kept us informed every step of the way during the process and most important of all, you saved the family a great deal of income that we never could have saved without your help and guidance. I will recommend you to anyone who needs expert advice concerning elder law. It has been our pleasure to work with you. William B.
When my mother went into a nursing home permanently, I needed to update some of her legal documents immediately. It was suggested to me by a source at the nursing home, to get an elder law attorney… Because of the expertise of Mr. Gerhard and our lack of knowledge regarding finances and Medicaid, he was able to explain all of the laws to us and also to enable us to use her funds to better her life…He has been an invaluable source to us during this difficult time. Virginia K.
Explanations of processes, financial costs, readying of paperwork, returned phone calls, commitment to appointments…. all have been exemplary – in times when family emotions are tested because of situations, direction is helpful. Mr. Gerhard, III has directed well. Linda G.
It’s overwhelming. There is absolutely no way we could have done this without you. Eileen F.
To Whom It May Concern: I would like to highly recommend the services of Robert C. Gerhard, III. He very patiently and very knowledgeably guided me through the painstaking process of qualifying my mother for Medicaid. He accompanied my husband and me to meet with the social worker who told us that we would probably not have all the needed documents to qualify. Mr. Gerhard produced the stack of papers that were required… I believe that [the Medicaid caseworker] was very surprised that everything was in perfect order. We were able to preserve assets that we would surely not have without Mr. Gerhard’s help. Mr. Gerhard is very knowledgeable in Elder Law. He is very patient and willing to answer any questions you might have. He also is very accessible by telephone, returning messages promptly. In closing I found Mr. Gerhard a pleasure to work with and I would recommend his services to anyone who is in need. Joan
Dear Mr. Gerhard: I wanted to express my sincere appreciation for all the legal assistance that you have provided to my family over the past several months. When my father was unexpectedly admitted to a nursing home, I realized the need for an experience and knowledgeable Elder Law attorney to help us. As both an attorney and a physician, I was well aware of how complex these situations can be and how hard it can be to find someone in whom you can place your complete confidence. Fortunately, my search concluded with the identification of your firm.
During our initial meeting, I was very impressed by both your knowledge of the Elder Law issues and the thoroughness and clarity of your explanations and recommendations. At that point I felt comfortable with our decision to engage your office to represent our family during this difficult time.
During the entire process of preparing our estate plan and the nursing home application, you and your office staff kept me informed of all the issues and made excellent recommendations with respect to all of our estate planning needs. I am greatly relieved to know that my parents’ needs were addressed and I know that they are in a much better financial and legal situation now than they were before.
I would certainly not hesitate to recommend your services to any of my friends, relatives, or professional colleagues. Thank you for helping during these difficult times. Stephen K., Ambler, PA
…explained things we needed to take care of, that we didn’t know about. George L., Philadelphia, PA
You were worth every penny! Virginia B., Glenside, PA
I want to inform you of my pleasure in my relations with Bob Gerhard, III, Esquire. He was very attentive in all the transactions regarding the transfer of my Aunt’s nursing home affairs. He was pleasant and very conscientious and always ready to return my phone calls and to consult with me. Fred K., Lansdale, PA
Explanations were given in English, not ‘legalese’. Rich and Ruth K., Ardsley, PA.
The overall reception was wonderfully received. It is such a warm atmosphere from the time we walked into your office until we left. Bob III made sure that we understood all that we asked. Thank you. Henry and Essie A., Philadelphia, PA.
Dear Mr. Gerhard: On behalf of my family, I would like to thank you so much for your guidance through a very difficult time. When our mother became ill and needed to be placed in a nursing home we were facing many different situations which we had never imagined having to deal with. We know that things would never have gone so smoothly without your counsel. Throughout the sale of our mother’s house down to her application for Medicaid, it was so reassuring to know that all the details were being taken care of at a time when we really needed that support. Thank you again. Eileen F.
Great patience and care with elderly… Karen C.
All my calls were returned promptly and I feel that I had someone on my side! Celie M.
They were very quick to process everything. They were very kind and quick to return calls. Bonnie S.
When we didn’t understand something, he showed us on the chalk board to break it down for us to understand, also answering my questions because I didn’t read things accurately. Agnes M.
It was appreciated that the original charge did not change. Susan
Thank you so much for getting me through this ordeal. I will pass your name on to anyone I know who would need your help. Thank you. Vivian
Felt extremely comfortable during visits. Staff took extra step to make us feel the firm cared about the clients. Stuart S.
Offered suggestions and asked questions I would have never thought of. A very professional organization. Meeting was excellent. You are the best I have ever met. Oliver G.
Hiring you was probably one of the best decisions I’ve made regarding the care of my mother. Your knowledge and efficiency in handling all the financial aspects of my mother’s care was incredible. You lifted the burden and worry off my shoulders and enabled me to just enjoy the time I have left with my mother without the stress of all the financial paperwork and details. I respect your advice and have not regretted for a moment my decision to hire you. I will continue to recommend you every opportunity I get. Best wishes to you and your staff. Rita, Elder Life Specialist
They should put a star next to your name in the yellow pages. I will give your name to anyone who asks for a lawyer. George D.
Dear Mr. Gerhard: I am writing this letter to express my extreme satisfaction with your services. In search for an attorney, I was happy to find someone who exhibited both high integrity and professionalism and was not motivated by financial gains but rather by doing a job well done. I found you to be very pleasant, extremely knowledgeable and a quite effective problem solver. You helped my sister to gain Medicaid from the State of Pennsylvania so that she could continue her residency in a nursing home.
I also had the pleasure of meeting your grandfather accidentally on the parking lot several months ago. I must say that it is apparent from where you got your kindhearted nature because your grandfather also displayed those same qualities as you have and was very helpful to me in finding your office. Your family of three generations of lawyers has earned an excellent reputation in the Philadelphia area. Based on my experience with you and our case, I would highly recommend you to assist any of my friends, colleagues or really anyone who needs a good attorney specializing in estate planning, long-term nursing care and other elder law issues including trusts, living wills or durable power of attorney. I would like to thank you and your personnel again for your fine services and appreciate the courtesies extended to me during the duration of the project. George D.
Dear Mr. Gerhard, It was wonderful to receive the good news last week that my husband had finally been approved for Medical Assistance. When you and I first met, I was feeling so alone and confused about how to go about obtaining Medicaid coverage for my husband, Joe. I want to thank you and your staff for guiding me through the process and always telling me not to worry. If it were left up to me, I would still be running from place to place trying to work through it all…Again, please accept my deepest thanks for all you have done, not only for me, but also from Joe. Janet S.
There is a wonderful professional yet personal tone in everything the office and its people do. (That includes Bob especially.) It breathes confidence and competence. Ed S.
Explanations were in layman’s terms. An outstanding experience. J. D.
Bob III was willing to take time to explain clearly the options for estate planning and to advise on the pros and cons of each one in our case. Margaret G.
Excellent service with extremely knowledgeable staff. John P.
Just a short note to express our gratitude and appreciation. Also want you to know that we will recommend your services to all with similar situations. You clarified, in simple terms, a somewhat confusing situation when we were faced with placing our father in a nursing home and had to quickly understand all the financial considerations, legal documents and state laws. Your guidance and direction during that difficult time was greatly appreciated. Thank you again for the warm, caring and professional approach during that stressful time. Sincerely, E.J.T.
Dear Robert, Thank you for the great job in the settlement of the estate and other financial affairs relating to my father. With so many things happening at the same time (my father’s failing health, my mother in a nursing home, and all their assets tied up in trust) we were thankful for the way you sorted everything out and handled all the details. Your advice and expertise in elder care law has saved us many thousands of dollars. Please feel free to use me in recommending your services to anyone. All of my mom and dad’s assets would be in the hands of a nursing home if it weren’t for your advice. Thank you again for everything and especially for promptly returning my calls. Sincerely, Arthur H.
Dear Bob, I would like to take a few moments to thank you for your guidance and support over the past two plus years. Given the tragic accident that my elderly mother experienced, we were thrust into a situation that required immediate attention, which would impact the rest of her life and mine too. The counsel and advice that you shared with me and my family has been truly indispensable. The legal documents that you drew up … were exceptionally done. The Medicaid application process that you navigated through multiple times given my mother’s situation was invaluable. You have helped us to be able to afford the highest quality elder care for my mother while protecting a large amount of her assets through your detailed understanding of the law. As a result, you have allowed my mother and the rest of her family peace of mind to know she will be taken care of in her facility of choice for the rest of her life. I highly recommend you and your office to anyone that is affected by elder law and please feel free to share this with any of your potential clients. Sincerely, Thomas J.
Bob, I wanted to thank you for the professional way in which you handled my aunt’s estate. Your services were timely and your advice invaluable. You made a very “tough” time in our lives much more bearable and should you ever need the reference(s) of “very satisfied customers” don’t hesitate to call on us…Once again thank you. Sincerely, Ed G.
Dear Mr. Gerhard, I am very grateful for your help in [my mother’s] Medicaid application. You made a difficult process much less frustrating. You were always available to handle the many challenges that arose. The successful outcome was a result of your expertise. I appreciate everything you have done. Sincerely, Susan J.
Dear Bob, Thank you for sharing your expertise with our family. You made everything go a lot smoother. We truly appreciate all the time and understanding you gave to my dad. We are most grateful. Thank you. Sincerely, J.Z.
Dear Mr. Gerhard, Thank you for calling me back today and for calling me back so fast. It felt nice to explain the situation about my late mother’s estate and to have someone understand so completely…You certainly put me at ease… Thank you, Paul M.
Hi Bob, Thank you for all the hard work you did for us… Your calm, sincere, and timely approach to all of the above affairs has been very reassuring…I highly recommend you to my friends and co-workers. Please use this as a recommendation for your services. Linda L.
Thanks Bob. I appreciate all your help throughout the years that you have assisted me in taking care of my mother’s affairs. You have been a tremendous help to me and I don’t know what I would have done without your assistance through this difficult situation… Dawn J.
Dear Bob: I would like to express my mother’s and my family’s sincere gratitude for your legal assistance over the past few months. With our mother being unexpectedly admitted into a nursing home, two of our friends highly recommended you. It was the best recommendation we could have received and put my mother’s fear of losing all of her assets at ease… Thank you for your warm and caring approach during this difficult time. Please feel free to use me as a reference. Jean
Dear Bob, I was very sorry to learn that we are to be disengaged — though of course I am delighted at the results you have been able to achieve on my behalf. It’s almost like the passing away of a friend. You can be quite sure that I will recommend you to the whole wide world; indeed, I already have talked of your personal warmth and extraordinary knowledge and competence at every opportunity, even to several people out of state. Sadly, Ed
Hello and thank you very much for all your hard work on mom’s case. I don’t think I would have stayed sane without all your great help. You were also so professional at all times, but very kind to me with all my many questions and nervousness about what we had to deal with. Know I will pass your name along to my friends who will be facing some of the same hard issues… Mary
We just wanted to formally thank you for all your assistance, patience, and perseverance in the process of qualifying our mother for Medicaid benefits and getting her the nursing home care that she needed when she was no longer able to take care of herself. Your services tracking down information and organizing and presenting our case were indispensible. We came to you with a uniquely complex situaiton and you worked with us patiently, answering all of our questions, quickly returning calls, and generally making yourself available as new questions presented themselves. Over the course of the application process I made innumerable trips to your office bringing documents pertinent to our case, and I was always received graciously by you and your kind staff… Keith and Amy

Dear Mr. Gerhard,
I’m writing to you on behalf of my wife and I with regard to your outstanding services you have provided to us for resolution with my mother-in-law’s admission into a nursing home.
Because of suffering from dementia and Alzheimer’s, mom was released from the hospital and immediately placed into a nursing home. We were told everything would be “taken care of “ and all applications were made to have her receive Medicaid and financial support because of her not having any property and living off of her Social Security. After her admission into the nursing home, we were notified nine months later that she was denied Medicaid for her stay first six months at the nursing home. We faced a financial payment for nursing home services totaling over $35,000 that was not covered by Medicaid. Faced with this we were devastated with the only option of getting a second mortgage to pay this balance and did not know where to turn.
I contacted your office, and you immediately set up an interview for the next day. [Editor’s note, in terms of expectations, a next day appointment is not normally possible.] After an hour discussion with you and providing all of my documentation, my wife and I left your office feeling relieved that we at least had some options. A huge burden had been taken off of our shoulders and we had a feeling of strong relief that we were in good hands. Not only were you open for discussion you gave us and a sense of direction where to go. Your manner, knowledge of elder care, and professionalism were outstanding. You immediately filed appeals to Medicaid and stayed in touch with us on a daily to weekly basis. My trust grew with each telephone call or e-mail advising my wife and I of our status. You are client centered and compassionate.
… [Editor’s note: following appeals and a favorable resolution of the case]… You notified me immediately of their decision in our favor and that they would cover mom’s admission going back to her initial first day.
Bob, I just want to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for being there for my family and I during this unbelievably stressful time in our lives. I would wholeheartedly recommend your outstanding and knowledgeable services to all my friends, family and coworkers for any elder law or family planning for their loved ones, prior to them being faced with anything involving their elderly parents or loved ones. I wish you continued success.
Steven & Mary
Dear Bob & Staff, Thank you very much for your quick and successful response for our family’s Medicaid situation. Since we have become your client in 2010 you have never failed to represent us in a timely and satisfactory way. We look forward to a continuing relationship in future years. Frank and Ellen
