Robert C. Gerhard, III, Esquire, Certified Elder Law Attorney

Robert C. Gerhard, III specializes in elder law and devotes his law practice exclusively to elder law matters, emphasizing Medicaid law and asset protection for families facing nursing home situations. He is certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, as authorized by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. Only certified elder law attorneys are permitted to represent themselves to the public as being “specialists in elder law.”

Attorney Gerhard was honored by the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Elder Law Section with its “2014 Excellence in Elder Law Award” in recognition of “his superior professional efforts in the field of elder law, significant contributions to the legal profession, and noteworthy service to the elderly.”

He has authored two elder law treatises: Pennsylvania Medicaid Long Term Care 2016, and the Pennsylvania Medicaid Long-term Care Lawsource, both published by the venerable Pennsylvania legal publishing house, George T. Bisel Company. Mr. Gerhard is co-author and editor of the Montgomery County Elder Law Handbook, which is published by the Montgomery Bar Association, and is the longtime editor of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Elder Law Section Newsletter.

Mr. Gerhard is a leader in the field of Pennsylvania elder law. He currently serves as Vice President of the Pennsylvania Association of Elder Law Attorneys (PAELA), and has been Chair of the Montgomery Bar Association’s Elder Law Committee for 15 years. He is also past-Chair of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Elder Law Section which has 800 members.

Attorney Gerhard is a member of the Montgomery County Estate Planning Council, the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council, and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

Mr. Gerhard received his law degree (J.D.) from the Dickinson School of Law and earned his tax law degree (LL.M. Taxation) from the Villanova University School of Law. After law school, Mr. Gerhard served as a law clerk to the Honorable Theodore S. Gutowicz in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Orphans’ Court Division. This section of the court deals with guardianship cases and matters of trust and estate administration.

Robert C. Gerhard, III has been honored with the highest peer-review rating by Martindale Hubbell of “AV®” for legal ability and ethics. He has been selected for inclusion in Pennsylvania Super Lawyers® (2005 – 2016) and Philadelphia’s Best Lawyers® in the field of elder law. (2010 – 2016.)

Attorney Gerhard has taught elder law subjects to Pennsylvania lawyers at continuing legal education seminars and conferences for many years. He presents numerous courses for lawyers and long-term care professionals, including “Representing an Indvidual Entering a Nursing Home”, “Avoiding Malpractice in Elder Law”, and the “Do’s and Don’ts of the Medicaid Application Process.”

Aimee Powell limits her practice to elder law matters and estate and trust administration. Attorney Powell graduated from the Dickinson School of Law, and is a member of the Montgomery County Estate Planning Council.

Robert C. Gerhard, Jr. has practiced estate planning, estate administration, elder law, and real estate since being admitted to the Pennsylvania bar in 1975. Attorney Gerhard earned his law degree from Temple University’s School of Law. He served as a prosecutor in the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office from 1976-1988.
