Robert C. Gerhard III, Esquire Certified Elder Law Attorney
Mr. Gerhard is a partner with the Montgomery County law firm of Gerhard & Gerhard located in Glenside, Pennsylvania. Mr. Gerhard is an authority on Pennsylvania Medicaid law as it relates to long term care. He authored the law treatises Pennsylvania Medicaid, Long-Term Care and Pennsylvania Medicaid Long-Term Care Lawsource, both published by the George T. Bisel Co. He devotes his practice exclusively to estate planning and elder law matters, emphasizing Medicaid law and asset protection for families facing nursing home situations. Mr. Gerhard is certified as an elder law attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation, as approved by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court and American Bar Association. He has chaired the Montgomery County Bar Association’s Elder Law Committee for the past six years; is a member of the Philadelphia Estate Planning Council; is a long-serving Council Member of the Pennsylvania Bar Association’s Elder Law Section, 2002 - present; and has been a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys since 1996. Mr. Gerhard received his J.D. from the Dickinson School of Law and earned his tax law degree (LL.M. Taxation) from the Villanova University School of Law, Graduate Tax Program. Mr. Gerhard served as law clerk to Hon. Theodore S. Gutovicz in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas, Orphans’ Court Division. He has been honored with Martindale Hubbell’s highest lawyer rating of "AV" for ability and ethics. He was honored by his fellow lawyers and Philadelphia Magazine in 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 when he was named an area "Super Lawyer" in the field of elder law by Philadelphia Magazine and also on a statewide basis in Pennsylvania Lawyer Magazine's Super Lawyer edition. He was also honored by the Legal Intelligencer and Pennsylvania Law Weekly as a "Fast-track Lawyer", a leader in the field of elder law. Mr. Gerhard is co-author of the Montgomery County Elder Law Handbook and editor of the Montgomery County Elder Law Reference Guide. Mr. Gerhard teaches continuing education courses for lawyers and long-term care professionals, including "Representing an Individual Entering a Nursing Home," "Avoiding Medicaid Mistakes," and the "Dos and Don’ts of the Medicaid Application Process" for the Pennsylvania Bar Institute. He is a current member and past-president of the Rotary Club of Glenside, and coaches Girl's 2nd and 3rd Grade Girl's soccer on weekends in the fall.

The Montgomery County Elder Law Handbook 2008 Co-author and Editor. This helpful handbook was written as a practical, consumer-oriented resource to help the senior citizens of Montgomery County. The text has been provided to the bar associations of every county in Pennsylvania as a model so that they can draft their own local editions. It has been supplied to most public libraries in Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. The Montgomery County Elder Law Reference Guide 2006 Co-author and editor. A concise source of information concerning elder law directed to Montgomery County residents and published by the Montgomery Bar Association. Published February 2006.
